Review Rugrats In Paris - The Movie [2000] / Paramount Home Entertainment:The second theatrical film from the popular television show, Rugrats in Paris is better than the original surprise hit, The Rugrats Movie. Instead of delving into their rich fantasy life, the Rugrats gang goes on a real adventure when their families visit Paris together. Mr Pickles is brought over to fix his giant Reptar robot, the centerpiece of EuroReptarland (a biting version of the trouble-plagued EuroDisney). The underlying story has Chuckie (the one with the square glasses) looking for a new mummy, as his dad (who has a square personality) starts to fall for a villainous executive (voiced by Susan Sarandon). Soon Paris takes it on the chin as the diaper gang tries to save Chuckie's dad from the altar. The success of the Rugrats is in the writing, where much thought goes into finding comic gems for the adults (there are wonderful parodies of The Godfather and King Kong that will sail over kids' heads). The garble-mouthed youngsters keep up their joyful ways in this 78-minute feature that feels no different from their Nickelodeon series except in length, some 3-D animation sequences, and an eclectic song score (with Cyndi Lauper's "I Want a Mom That Will Last Forever" the real catch). Review Rugrats - Easter / Paramount Home Entertainment:Rugrats Easter has nothing to do with the Christian celebration; instead, this trio of springtime episodes focuses on Spike, the Pickles family dog, with usual zany repercussions. Beginning with "Bow Wow Wedding Vows", it seems that Spike has found true love with Fifi, a prissy pooch. Tommy misses the attention of his loyal canine until happy surprises abound for all. In another episode, "Spike the Wonder Dog", Chuckie and friends try to coerce Spike into speaking words like Oodles the Talking Poodle, of television fame. Angelica assists Spike with a few tricks of her own-until she's caught with her hand in the cookie jar, literally. While the segments are humorous and will appeal to audiences on several levels, it is disappointing that the creators shied away from retelling the biblical story of Easter with the same creative approach as other Rugrats titles. -Lynn Gibson, Amazon. com.

EMMETT OTTER'S JUG BAND CHRISTMAS: Emmet Otter and his Ma are dirt-poor, but very happy and good singers. But as Christmas is around the corner, both of them want to get something special for each other. And the talent show prize is $50! So, Ma gets a song ready, and Emmet forms a jug-band with his friends. But the Riverbottom Gang, a bunch of rich kids with killer electric band equipment are going to be tough competition.

Review Scooby Doo - What's New Scooby Doo - Lights, Camera, Action [1996] / Warner Home Video:This horrible misfire from the usually reliable writer-director Andrew Bergman (The Freshman) has nothing funny, provocative, timely or interesting to say (despite being based on a novel by Carl Hiaasen) once Demi Moore gets her clothes off. Moore plays a single, unemployed mum caught up in a custody battle who elects to make some money by stripping at a club. The character's troubles don't end there, however: her ex-husband is posing a threat, and a perverted congressman (Burt Reynolds) is looking for more than a lap dance.
