Review Wish Gone Amiss [2007] / Disney:It's common knowledge that wishing on a shooting star guarantees a wish come true, but Miley Stewart (Hannah Montana), Cory (Cory in the House), and Zack and Cody (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody) are about to find out that impulsive wishes often result in unintended consequences in Wish Gone Amiss. The ever-scheming Cory wishes himself into the presidency in "Gone Wishin'" only to discover that the responsibilities of the Presidency are enormous, especially when robotic aliens threaten to replace all of his cabinet members and take over the world. Miley Stewart's wish that she could leave her secret identity behind and be Hannah Montana all the time lands Hannah in the lap of luxury, but the cost to her family's individual and collective happiness is huge. Zack and Cody wish themselves into superheroes, but soon find out that with super powers come evil villains like Moseby the "Meanager" and super responsibilities. Each of these three fantastical episodes relies on a heavy dose of the comically ridiculous for maximum entertainment, while offering an important message about responsibility and an appreciation of one's own circumstances. -Tami Horiuchi.

Review High School Musical - Remix/High School Musical 2 - Extended Dance Edition [2006] / High School Musical:High School Musical The Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical is a combination of backstage action and Grease without the unwholesome habits. Scoring record ratings at the time of its US January 2006 broadcast, it's a smash hit with tween audiences (ages 6 to 10), but appealing for all ages. At a New Year's Eve party, Troy (Zac Efron of Summerland) has a chance meeting with Gabriella (Vanessa Anne Hudgens) when they share a karaoke song. Lo and behold, when school resumes, they discover that Gabriella has just transferred to Troy's East High School, a campus divided into tight cliques of jocks, cheerleaders, brainiacs, and skater dudes. Eager to recapture the magic they'd discovered during karaoke, Troy and Gabriella consider auditioning for the school's upcoming musical, much to the dismay of the school's frost queen/theatre goddess, Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody). Problem is, Troy is also the star of the basketball team and Gabrielle is being recruited to compete in the Scholastic Decathlon. Will they give up their cliques to start something new, or will they do as the show's first big anthem urges and "Stick to the Status Quo"? Well, this is a Disney movie, so maybe the sacrifices won't be that hard, and even the hints of romance are mild. Review Baby Shakespeare - World of Poetry / Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainm:The fourth DVD from the Baby Einstein folks is their most engaging product yet. Aimed at slightly older audiences (ages 1 to 4), Baby Shakespeare combines poetry with the usual mix of festive classical music, bright objects, and happy thoughts designed to stimulate young minds. This video is aimed at exposing little tykes to the language context. Twelve words (grass, tree, etc. ) are explored in pictures and poem form with plenty of playful stops for kids singing their ABC's and close-ups of brightly colored toys in action. Older children can follow the poetry in a beautiful enclosed picture book of poem text and sharp outdoor photography. We even meet Baby Einstein's first host: a dragon puppet named Bard, who (along with his friends) playfully participates in the action. He deserves a repeat performance. -Doug Thomas.

Review George Of The Jungle 2 [2003] / Buena Vista Home Entertainment:Although direct-to-video Disney sequels usually try to hide or simply ignore the issue, George of the Jungle 2 gleefully points out the lack of continuity between it and the original movie. Here, the good-natured narrator is happy to explain why Brendan Fraser has been replaced and why the special effects look cheaper: it's all a part of an effort to expand beyond the one-joke idea of a block-headed Tarzan who keeps swinging into trees. It's a pleasant surprise that all these self-referential nods and asides to the camera do indeed make hilarious viewing. Replacement Chris Showerman willingly takes on all manner of humiliation at the hands of CG jungle animals and his new extended family. George junior is the main by-product of the five-year gap, and thankfully has inherited brains from his mother's side (Julie Benz). In a dastardly plot to win back his love, Lyle (Thomas Haden Church, one of the few to reprise his role from the original) has the gang trooping back and forth to Las Vegas. With sight gags aplenty, bumbling George has more than just trees to avoid. -Paul Tonks.
