A classic fable gets fused with War of the Worlds in Disney's Chicken Little. In the small town of Oakey Oaks, young Chicken Little (voiced by Zach Braff, Garden State) struggles to live down the embarrassment of having once thought the sky was falling. But when he gets struck again by a hexagonal, sky-camouflaged, hi-tech doohickey, he and his friends Ugly Duckling (Joan Cusack, School of Rock), Runt of the Litter (Steve Zahn, Sahara), and Fish Out of Water discover that aliens are preparing to invade Earth-but since no one believed Chicken Little the first time, why would they believe him now? Though kids will enjoy the bright whizz-bang action sequences of Chicken Little, discerning parents will find the movie tedious. Technically, it has the computer animation quality of Pixar-but with none of their intelligence, heart, or simple storytelling skill. The basic idea of connecting the fable to aliens is amusing, but the script routinely bogs down in clumsy father-son issues that seem like material edited out of Finding Nemo. The jokes rarely have anything to do with the characters, but are mostly pop-culture references that are sadly out of date. The action sequences were obviously created with the inevitable video game in mind, for which the movie is little more than an advertisement. Chicken Little falls flat. -Bret Fetzer.

Hey, hey, are you ready to sing? The Tweenies are, in Song Time is Fab-a-Rooney, another entertaining and educational video from the BBC characters. The video is split into five different sections, each with a theme which unifies the songs, such as "Let's Pretend", "Counting Fun" or "Song Time Favourites". The "Copy Me" section is particularly entertaining, containing a rendition of "Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" that neither you nor your toddler will forget in a hurry. From traditional tunes such as "How Much Is that Doggie in the Window?" to more contemporary songs, such as "Monster Nosh", there's plenty to keep children (one to five) amused. Plenty of movement, action, and singing, as well as favourite characters Bella, Milo, Jake, Fizz and, of course, Doodles the Dog, will give little legs, arms and lungs a good work-out, while the educational element of the activities will encourage number-recognition and counting, co-ordination and memory skills, as well as creativity, imaginative play and musical skills. No wonder toddlers are tired by the time the 25 songs are over. With the Tweenies, song time really is "fab-a-rooney", and as an entertainment and educational tool, the video represents money you will never regret spending. -Lucie Naylor.

Baby Van Gogh is from the award-winning infant-developmental media company Baby Einstein, whose goal and philosophy is the satisfaction of a child's curiosity through sight and sound. In the main Theatre section of this disc you'll find lots of simple shapes, primary colours and favourite toys passing across the screen. Unlike the simpler earlier releases, this is focused on the works of Vincent Van Gogh, who is here represented by a blue sock puppet! To begin with the video seems like something of a nature documentary with flowers in bloom and animals on the move, before we're taken through the colours of the rainbow with sections devoted to the individual colours. For example in Yellow, there are toy chicks, sunflowers, lemons and children playing in yellow paper shavings. All the while, The Baby Einstein Music Box Orchestra play us music from Van Gogh's era such as The Blue Danube Waltz, The William Tell Overture, Swan Lake and Flight of the Bumble Bee. This is a slight advancement in expectation of your child from the more basic initial releases but has a Video Tutorial to help the parent understand how it all works. On the DVD: Baby Van Gogh is the name of the feature itself, but from the Main Menu you can enter a Concert Hall to replay the musical cues from the main show. There's also an Art Exhibit of each of the featured Van Gogh paintings, a Resources section with the aforementioned Video Tutorial and a Toy Chest crediting all the toys used, just in case a certain someone wants one of their own. -Paul Tonks.

The Tweenies are back for some more all-singing, all-dancing fun. This lively nursery is attended by four, multi-coloured children, with oversize shoes and large, happy faces-Bella, Milo, Fizz and Jake-and a large, fluffy red dog. Aimed at pre-teen children, from about age three, The Tweenies is popular BBC TV show that encourages activity and participation in the viewer. After the lively "Come and Have Fun with the Tweenies" introductory song, each episode starts with the Tweeny Clock, which has five options, one of which is "Songtime". This collection for video, Songtime, is a non-stop series of upbeat songs, both familiar and new, and the Tweeny children have great fun dressing-up as the characters and acting out the storylines. Favourite and familiar songs such as "10 Fat Sausages Sizzling in a Pan", "If You're happy and You Know it", "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush" and "The Grand Old Duke of York" are interspersed with new songs, such as "Feel the Music" and "Rainy Day", all of them with actions to copy, so by time gentler songs such as "I'd Like To Be A Bubble" comes on, you will all be glad of the rest! -Alison Jardine.
