Here Come the Teletubbies On this early collection, the tubby toast machine goes berserk and throws toast everywhere, the magic rain cloud appears and makes puddles to splash in, a surreal, computer-generated animal parade marches across the valley, Po makes a trail of tubby custard all over Tubby land and then falls over all the time-there are, of course, two short films of real-life children, from the TV-tummy of the Tubbies, that make this such fun for older toddlers too. Messes and Muddles These stories see Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po feeling very, very happy-but leaving very messy beds! Then, tubby custard is spilt everywhere, the tubby toast machines goes berserk and a little fluffy cloud floats into the house and fills it from top to bottom-and the little Noo-noo has to suck all the mess up! Review Maisy and Panda [2001] / Universal Pictures UK:Maisy, the epony-mouse from Lucy Cousins' hugely popular books, returns to the small screen in Maisy and Panda. The episodes-"Panda", "Torch", "Library", "Wheel", "Puppets", "Cleaning", "Doctor", "Wheelbarrow", "Snail" and "Goodnight"-mirror the special friendship every child has with a favourite toy. The animation reproduces the bright, block colours of the books, but adds a new dimension of playful characterisation and sound effects. The characters' voices are very much in the Teletubbies and Pingu mode, offering few discernible words but perfectly evoking the individual characters and appealing to very young children. Neil Morrissey's voice-over offers a gentle, questioning cue for Maisy and her friends' activities and further brings out the stories' educational emphasis. The Maisy videos combine simple presentation with charming characterisation to great effect and each tale is constructed with an underlying intelligence and humour that repays repeat viewings.
